He spent 6 years with 2BN 20th Special Forces, Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. He was activated February 4, 1991 for the Gulf War while attending Mississippi State University. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina until the Gulf War ended and he returned to Mississippi State University. On thet same day he graduated from Mississippi State University, he was commissioned First Lieutenant in the United States Army and sent to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma (home of the Field Artillery). In 1994, Kevin was sent to Bamberg, Germany where he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and then in ceremonies in Bamberg, Germany on June 2, 1997, he was promoted to Captain. His wife and children joined him in Bamberg where they lived for three years. On June 15, 1997, he and his family returned home to the States. On May 10, 1999, in ceremonies at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Capt. Lewis took his first command: B Battery, 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery. On July 29, 1999 he was one of about 125 men in Task Force Comanche Thunder, a Multiple Launch Rocket System task force, deployed from Fort Sill to Kuwait in support of Operation Southern Watch.
