I always wanted to know the other side of the family. There has been
research completed on my mother's side but not a whole lot on my father's
side. My dad is 82 years old and still gets around. He has always been a
private individual; my daughter, Cathy, when she was in high school had to
interview a WWII vet so she interviewed my dad; bottom line he said the most
interesting thing that happened to him was he met his brother, Young I
believe was his name after seeing his name on a duty roster. I had no
idea.....what I remember about his father, my grandfather, was told to me by
my grandmother when I was little and that he was murdered by his partner in
a land dispute; the partner wanted to sell, my grandfather did not. I
believe there was a clipping of the hanging where the partner was found
guilty of murder and hung in the town square. From what I understand, my
grandmother became the house-mother of an orphanage and some kids lived
there with her, some were grown and had gone into the service, while others
lived with Aunt Delia, (pronounced Deally, not sure of the spelling). The
Motes family, which was my Aunt Delia, who passed away about 15 years ago,
was one of the only sides of the family I knew and after my grandmother,
Almedia, died we didn't see too much of them. They are a valuable resource
into the family history or should be. That family always seemed to be
close. One constant contact with my dad is Floyd Gober, he still lives in
Cedar Town; we always called him Uncle Fuddy. Getting back to my
grandmother, she lived with us for a brief while when I was a kid and was a
proud but stern woman. I did go to a "family" reunion at the orphanage when
I was 16 years old; but that is the only time I met anyone that lived there
the same time my dad did......Are there any pictures that anyone would care
to share? I would like to have a copy of the death certificate and will pay
all postage and handling charges. My older brother Richard Keith Gober was
born on Jan. 31, 1954 and was married to Sheila in 1972, they had one child
Jessica; they divorced in 1975-76. Jessica is married to Tony, I'll have to
look up the last name, (my memory ain't the greatest) ( I just saw her about
a week ago too....)they have two boys. Richard remarried in 1980 (I think
1980) to Fran Smith; they have one son 13 years old named Matthew. I was
born January 19, 1957 and married in 1972, one child Catherine Yvonne; I
divorced her dad in 1976 and remarried in 1984 to Ed Chadwick; I have one
step-daughter, Melissa - she has one step-son, Carl David - we call him
Tater, and one natural son, James Chandler. She is divorced. My daughter
Cathy has never married. Gary Lee Gober, my younger brother, was born on
January 4, 1967 and is divorced.
