Raney "slipped off" from her home about 3 miles north of Burnsville and ran to meet Noonan, who was waiting near a big oak tree. He took Raney's hand and they ran though the pasture. As they crossed a barbed wire fence, Raney tore her blue silk wedding dress. Noonan had parked his car on a hill (taking no chance that it wouldn't start) and they drove to Iuka, Mississippi where the wedding ceremony was performed. They spent their wedding night at the home of his parents. William Noonan Gober died on 10 August 1961 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 55. He died of acute myocardial infarction. He was buried in August 1961 at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Counce, Hardin County, Tennessee.
