Father of J. H.Gober Succumbs to Long Illness; Funeral Service Held Last Wednesday
W. H. Gober, retired Baptist minister and pioneer resident of LfFlore County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charley Webb in Monroe last Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Gober had been in ill health for over a year, and his condition had become steadily worse.
Runeral service was held at the Baptist Church in Monroe Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. Byers of Mansfield, Ark., officiating. Pall bearers included Clyde Whisenant, Mabra Smith,Joe Collins, Arthur Coggins, John Mitchell and Tom Ferguson, officials at the LeFlore County courthouse. Mr. Gober's son, J. H. Gober is county clerk. Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery.
Mr. Gober, 74 years old at the time of his death, was a native of Georgia, but had moved to this region in the early part of the twentieth century. In addition to his ministry, Mr. Gober farmed near Monroe for several years.
He is survided by four sons, J. H. Gober of Poteau, Coyle Gober of Muskogee, Bee Gober and Harve Gober of Monroe; and four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Crane and Mrs. Charley Webb of Monroe, Mrs. J. R. Bridges of Howe, and Mrs. Charles Cagle of Pine Bluff, Ark; and thirty-two grandchildren.
