Mrs. Chloe Reed Hamby, 801 Haynes Street, for whom members of the Chloe Hamby named themselves, died Thursday morning at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Hamby was known for her outstanding service to her church and in the UPC where she was in charge of the annual essay contest for many years and had held all offices in the UDC and was a lifelong resident of Marietta.
Particularly known for her civic interest, Mrs. Hamby also undertook to write much during her lifetime cheering the sick and unfortunate.
She was the widow of Thomas J. Hamby.
Rites will be held at 3 p.m., Friday in Marietta First Methodist Church. The Rev. Gordon Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Marietta City Cemetery. Dobbins Funeral Home is in charge.
The body will lie in state at 2.p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will meet at 2:45 at the church. Members of the Kennesaw Chapter of the UDC and members of the Chloe Hamby Circles of the First Methodist Church and the St. Stephens Methodist Church are invited especially to attend and will meet in a body at the church at 2:45 p.m.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Hugh Hamby, Atlanta, Mrs. Herbert Hamby, Birmingham, Ala., one brother-in-law, Edgar Hamby, Macon several nieces and nephews.
