She married Thomas Asbury Gober, son of George Wisdom Gober and Mary Ann Gober, on 21 January 1847 at Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia. Athalene Elizabeth Mayes died on 4 January 1885 at Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, at age 62. She was buried at Citizens Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.
