Mrs Hamby Dies at Home of Her Daughter; Was 81

Mrs. Theresa Hamby, one of the oldest and most prominent women in Cobb county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. A. Bishop, on Washington avenue Wednesday morning. Mrs. Hamby was 81 years of age at the time of her death.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. N. M. Mayes and Mrs. Alice Brown; two brothers, Judge George F. Gober and W. M. Gober; one daughter, Mrs. A. A. Bishop; and five sons, T. J. Hamby, Marietta. H. V. Hamby, Smyrna, G. T. Hamby, Ahwahnee, California, E. L. Hamby, Marietta, and D. H. Hamby, Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. J. L. Allgood and Ref. J. H. Patton, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Kemp, J. J. Daniell, J. H. Hamby, T. A. Gober, Dr. W. M. Gober, Emmett Hamby and Howard Hamby, all nephews of the deceased.
John S. Dobbins and Sons had charge of funeral arrangements.

Farmer Is Facing Charge of Murder
Charges of murder was filed against JOSEPH ELIJA GOBER, 57, farmer, for the fatal stabbing of his brother THOMAS GOBER, 33, Tuesday night during a fight at the home of another brother WILLIAM GOBER, three miles southeast of McLoud. The fight grew out of an argument over a keg of wine.¹

Gober bought an adjoining 140 acres on Beaverdam Creek from his father, Craddock Gober for $200.00 at Banks County, Georgia, on 11 December 1866.⁵ Thomas H. Gober bought 79 acres on Naked Creek from John Hardy for $100.00 at Banks County, Georgia, on 27 November 1867.⁶ He married Sarah Elizabeth _________. Thomas H. Gober died on 12 April 1905 at age 63.

     Thomas Henry Gober was born on 30 January 1870 at Thomastown, Leake County, Mississippi. He was the son of Elijah Thomas Gober and Emeline Boutwell. Thomas Henry Gober married Irene Huntington Renfroe on 26 January 1891 at Leake County, Mississippi. Thomas Henry Gober married Stella Ray Culley on 29 December 1914. Thomas Henry Gober was buried at Canton City Cemetery, Canton, Madison County, Mississippi. He was murdered. He died in July 1942 at Madison County, Mississippi, at age 72.
