LaFayette, Ga. -- J. C. Gober Jr., a well-known teacher and civic leader in LaFayette, died Saturday morning in a Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., hospital. He was 66.
Mr. Gober was retired from the Walker County Board of Education and had taught in the Walker County schools for 15 years.
He was a member of the LaFayette Rotary Club, where he had served as president and was the recipient of the organizations Vocational Service Award.
Mr. Gober was a member of LaFayette First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva P. Gober; one son, Terry C. Gober of Cedar Bluff Ala., one sister, Effie Nolan of Arab, Ala; three brothers, Barnie Gober of Arab, Ala., Dr. John Gober of Common Ala., and Elvis Gober of Montgomery, Ala; two grandchildren, Autumn and Heather Gober of Cedar Bluff, Ala; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. from LaFayette First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Ramsey, the Rev. Joe Watson and the Rev. Kenneth Mavity officiating.
Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery.
Ray Brooks, Jack King, A. J. Isbell, Frank Cobb, Frank Leake, Joe Robertson, Dr. Rocky* Gober and J. D. Bolden will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the LaFayette Rotary Club and the Walker County Vocational Advisory Committee.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wallace and Son Funeral Home in LaFayette.

     Joseph Isom Gober was born on 31 December 1887 at Grove Hill, Fannin County, Texas. He was the son of Isom Asburry Gober and Louisa Edmond Ring. Joseph Isom Gober married Inez Webb on 5 March 1916 at Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma. Joseph Isom Gober died on 23 July 1965 at Bovina, Parmer County, Texas, at age 77. He was buried on 25 July 1965 at Bovina, Parmer County, Texas; Services were held for Joseph Isom Gober, 77 on Saturday afternoon, July 24, 1965 in the Oklahoma Lane Methodist church near Farwell, Texas. An early day farmer of the Tipton, OK area, he died the previous Friday (July 23, 1965) in the Clovis Memorial Hospital after several years of poor health.

Among those attending the services were Mrs. Earl Mc Kinley, niece; Joe Farris, nephew; both of Tipton, OK and Charles Nelms of Mangum, OK, whose wife Ruth was a sister to Mrs. Mc Kinley and Joe Farris.

Joseph Isom Gober was born December 30, 1887 at Leonard, Fannin County TX, a son of Isom Asberry and Louisa Ring Gober. He came with his family to Oklahoma in July 1902 and they lived 1 ½ miles west and four miles south of Tipton. He was married at Altus, OK to Inez Webb on March 5, 1916. They moved from Tipton to Farwell, Texas in 1925.

Due to poor health he had spent several winters in South Texas or Chandler, Arizona.

Survivors include his widow of the home; two daughters, Mrs. David Carson of Friona, Texas and Mrs. Charles Roark of Amarillo, Texas; three sons, Lloyd and Scott Gober of Bovina, Texas and Webb Gober of Farwell. A brother, Scott Gober of Sanger, TX and 15 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. John Edgar (Astrea Alberta Gober) Farris of this community (Tipton, OK) died in June 1964.2
